Rule Violation: 2020 SGA Elections
Response from Election Board to rule violation Fri Apr 10
The UMBC SGA Election Board recently received notification of an Instagram post made by the UMBC Phi Delta Epsilon Fraternity. The post endorsed Mehrshad Devin for President and Zachary Kay for Executive Vice President.
The post was found to violate 2020 UMBC SGA Election Rules on endorsements, and the Election Board has taken action to require that the post be immediately removed.
In addition, the Election Board has determined that Mehrshad Devin and Zachary Kay, as well as any and all representatives of either campaign, will be prohibited from campaigning in any form for 48 hours. The prohibition applies to all forms of campaigning as outlined in the Election Rules. The two candidates and their representatives may resume campaigning no earlier than 10:49pm ET on Sunday, April 12, 2020. New endorsements of the candidates will not be published by the Election Board during the prohibition, and no new endorsements may be released from any campaign representative or supporter of the campaign during the prohibition.
The Election Board reminds candidates and their campaign representatives to reference the Election Rules to ensure that their actions are within election guidelines.
The 2020 SGA Elections will be held Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24. Add the election dates to your calendar here.
