SGA Election Rule Violation Complaint

The Election Board recently received an election complaint against the Ramesh/Hegbe campaign which alleged violations of the following rules:

"If a candidate or supporter is aware that a student is waiting to or in the act of voting, the candidate or supporter may not approach within 10 feet of the voter to provide information, solicit votes, or attempt to view the voter’s selections."

After careful review of the complaint, and reviewing the election board rules as well as the information provided regarding the alleged incident, we did not find any evidence of rule-breaking.

The Election Board would like to clarify that active campaigning is allowed during the voting period. The complaint and video that were submitted did not demonstrate that the candidate was within 10 feet of the polling station, as the candidate was outside of the building that the polling station was located in and well over 10 feet from the polling location.

The Election Board voted to dismiss this complaint.

Thank you.
