Senator, Legislative Branch

Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly Senate meetings and abide by the approved attendance policy (Note: You must attend weekly meetings. Senate meetings are weekly on Mondays at 5:30 until the meeting’s conclusion)
  • Actively make an effort to participate in and promote all SGA-affiliated initiatives and events
  • Promote and support UMBC undergraduate students by actively working with them and other campus partners to co-create programs, services, and relationships to improve the UMBC community
  • Communicate with members of the Executive Branch and encourage collaboration whenever possible
  • Meet regularly with various UMBC community members (faculty, staff, administrators, and other students) to effectively represent the interests of the student body
  • Serve on university shared governance committees
  • Accurately record all meeting minutes
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities assigned to Senators in SGA’s Guiding Documents
  • Submit bi-weekly progress reports to the SGA Stipend Review Committee

Finance Board Representative, Legislative Branch

Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly Finance Board meetings and abide by the approved attendance policy (Note: You must attend weekly meetings. Finance Board meetings are weekly on Tuesdays at 5:30 until the meeting’s conclusion)
  • Participate in determining allocations from the Student Activity Fee to support student
    organizations’ activities and contribute to a vibrant, enriching campus life
  • Actively make an effort to participate in and promote SGA-affiliated initiatives and events
  • Communicate with members of the Executive Branch and encourage collaboration whenever possible
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities assigned to Finance Board Representatives in SGA’s Guiding
    Documents
  • Submit bi-weekly progress reports to the SGA Stipend Review Committee

Coordinator of Communications & Outreach, Student Organization Support Team

The Student Organization Support Team is a group of students who are dedicated in supporting and providing resources to student organizations at UMBC. This team works with the Vice President for Student Organizations to implement effective communication, programming and support for student organizations. The team is also a part of the Student Government Association and works in conjunction with other SGA branches to support student organizations and strive to make the UMBC better through their work and efforts.



Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support UMBC undergraduate students by working with them and other campus partners to co-create programs, services, and relationships to support student organizations and improve the UMBC community
  • Maintain communicative resources such as newsletters and social media to inform student organizations of resources, programming and support
  • Uphold the values and work towards the vision of the organization
  • Attend officer retreats and developmental sessions
  • Hold and maintain office hours
  • Attend bi-weekly Student Organization Support Team Meetings
      Note: The Student Organization Support Team will meet at the discretion of the Vice President of Student Organizations
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities assigned to a Cabinet member of the Executive Branch in SGA’s Guiding Documents
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the SGA Vice President for Student Organizations and other SGA Executive members
  • Submit bi-weekly progress reports to the SGA Stipend Review Committee

  • Completed at least 12 credits at UMBC
  • Prior experience in SGA, civic engagement work, service learning, or other relevant experience
  • Experience in student organizations at UMBC or previous institution
  • Attended STRiVE, Alternative Spring Break, LeaderShape, or other leadership development experiences
  • Experience with group work and leading groups, preferably outside of the classroom

Member, Executive Council

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate and collaborate with members of the Legislative Branch and constituents
  • Uphold the values and work towards the vision of the organization
  • Design and implement campus wide initiatives
  • Attend officer retreats and developmental sessions
  • Hold and maintain office hours
  • Attend bi-weekly Executive Council Team Meetings
    • Note: The Executive Council will meet every other Wednesday during Free Hour
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities assigned to a Cabinet member of the Executive Branch in SGA’s Guiding Documents
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the SGA President
  • Submit bi-weekly progress reports to the SGA Stipend Review Committee

Director, Department of Communications

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all communication strategies with the support of other members of the Department of Communications

Associate Director of Special Projects & Flagship Initiatives, Election Night Extravaganza

Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support UMBC undergraduate students by working with them and other campus partners to co-create programs, services, and relationships to improve the UMBC community
  • Develop a plan for the coordination and implementation of the Between Elections/Election Night Extravaganza initiative by working with members of the Student Events Board, the Residential Student Association, College Democrats, College Republicans, and any other relevant student organization.
  • Review and modify the current program to reach more students across campus
  • Attend Special Projects & Flagship Initiatives team meetings
    • Time and location of the Special Projects team meetings up to the discretion of the Director
  • Uphold the values and work towards the vision of the organization
  • Attend officer retreats and developmental sessions
  • Hold and maintain office hours
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities assigned to a Cabinet member of the Executive Branch in SGA’s Guiding Documents

Coordinator of Public Relations, Department of Communications

Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support UMBC undergraduate students by working with them and other campus partners to co-create programs, services, and relationships to improve the UMBC community
  • Manage, plan, and determine strategies to execute the mission for the Department of Communications
  • Uphold the values and work towards the vision of the organization
  • Prepare written statements and articles on behalf of SGA to post on social media, myUMBC, etc.
  • Attend officer retreats and developmental sessions
  • Hold and maintain office hours
  • Attend Department of Communication Team Meetings
    • Time and location of the meetings for the Department of Communications are up to the discretion of the Director
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities assigned to a Cabinet member of the Executive Branch in SGA’s Guiding Documents
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the SGA President and the Director of the Department of Communications
  • Submit bi-weekly progress reports to the SGA Stipend Review Committee

Applicants offered a position are nominated by the President, pending confirmation by the Senate. All officers are awarded their stipends through the Stipend Review Committee.
