Questions:
1. What experience and qualifications do you have?
2. What is your platform? What do you hope to accomplish if you win?
3. What I really want students to know about me is…. ?
Candidate Responses:
1. I have been involved with the SGA since my freshman year (2006-2007), serving as a First Year Ambassador (2006-2007), a Senator (2007-2009), and the Assistant Speaker of the Senate (2008-2009). I was also the recipient of the Exemplary Senator of the Year Award in the 2007-2008 school year. Throughout my time in SGA, I have worked on several projects, and have come to have a good understanding of how the organization works. I have also seen processes in SGA that are effective, as well as many aspects that could be drastically improved. Outside of simply being in the SGA, I have served on many university committees and held leadership positions in several campus organizations. These experiences have given me the ability to see UMBC from an administrative point of view and have helped to shape me as a leader.

2. Proactive advocacy & engagement within the Campus, Catonsville, and Capitol Hill. On our own campus, we will create a hard-working, motivated atmosphere for the SGA in order to: communicate effectively with the student body, provide accessible and efficient resources for students, and empower students' voices. The town of Catonsville will become our home as we instill Black and Gold spirit within the community, voice our opinions on issues important to students, and create partnerships beyond the loop. UMBC will become a prominent and active leader among colleges and universities as well as in the political scene in Maryland. While taking positions on existing issues, we will also research and present topics of student interest that have yet to be addressed at the state level.

3. With our diverse experiences, Yasmin and I bring two unique perspectives into office- making for an effective and balanced partnership. From our personalities to our involvement around campus, you might call us "opposites". Yasmin's experience with SGA finances and relationship with student organizations, mixed with my legislative background and administrative interactions, are the perfect ingredients for a successful term in office!

Brief Platform Statement:

  • Campus- Empowering and unifying our campus community.
  • Catonsville- Making Catonsville an inviting and welcoming place for students.
  • Capitol Hill- Guaranteeing that students' opinions and concerns are being heard at the state level.
