CANDIDATE PROFILE

Stefan Victor

Candidate for Treasurer

Questions:
1. What experience and qualifications do you have?
2. What is your platform? What do you hope to accomplish if you win?
3. What I really want students to know about me is…. ?

Candidate Responses:
1. I believe my most important qualification is prior experience as a member of the Finance Board with the SGA. My familiarity with dealing with student activity fee money allows me to come into the Treasurer position with some background and potentially ideas for change, while encountering hurdles with allocation requests over the past year has helped to develop my decision-making process and skills. As a 2nd year (soon to be third year) resident assistant, I've been able to work with a diverse group of students as a supervisor to residents; group member to fellow RA's; and leader to first year RA's and other new paraprofessional staff. Also as an executive member of student organizations (Economics Council of Majors, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Oxfam), and member of many others, I know how organizations operate and can help create understanding between the organizations and SGA.

2. I hope to maintain or hopefully even surpass the standards of my predecessor, Yasmin, by continuing to encourage direct communication between the SGA and organizations. I can understand why students and organizations are often intimidated when interacting with the SGA and believe that I can bridge that gap by working with them so they better understand our rules and policies and how we operate to prevent organizations from believing SGA is some "big, bad group" which wants to make things complicated. I also plan to review the budget along with my peers to assess strengths and weaknesses in order to create initiatives to improve campus life. In addition I will do my best to support the initiatives of my fellow SGA members, and I pledge to be open to suggestions from the entire student body to meet their needs and do the best job possible.

3. At the end of the day, I am just another student. I definitely enjoy going to great events on campus (not to mention free of course), hanging out with friends, and making bonds and memories which will carry me through life. Like most students, I want to get the most out of my college experience. For me this means being in a positive atmosphere which everybody enjoys, not just me. I want students to realize that the members of SGA are your peers. They're not out to make life difficult, but as fun, relaxing, and comfortable as possible for everybody, including themselves. They take it upon themselves to use their voice to give the campus community a chance to become even better, often making some difficult decisions and dealing with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. I want you to know that no matter who you are, what major or year or goals, you have my respect and collaboration. And I hope that I will have yours.

Brief Platform Statement:

  • To create a strong positive relationship between student organizations and the offices I work with.
  • To efficiently allocate SGA funds to allow for a high quantity of high quality events.
  • To have students better understand the voice they have to make their experiences at UMBC better through SGA.
