Simmi Singh

Candidate for Senator

Questions:
1. What experience and qualifications do you have?
2. What is your platform? What do you hope to accomplish if you win?
3. What I really want students to know about me is…. ?

Candidate Responses:
1. This year, I began my involvement with the SGA as a First Year Ambassador for the Senate. I work with other first year students in the First Year Council to engage our campus with spirit related events, such as paint facing at basketball games and Black and Gold Fridays. I was recently confirmed as a Senator and it has been a pleasure serving the UMBC students in several different projects, such as Increasing Library Hours, Black and Gold Campus signage, Stress Free Zone, and the Transcript fee. After working on these diverse initiatives, I have gained experience working with administrators and understanding the process of making change on our campus.

2. As SGA senators, we will REPRESENT students effectively, ADVOCATE for unity on our campus, and EMPOWER students to create CHANGE where they see necessary.

3. This past year, I have had a unique opportunity to look at our campus as a first year student and have viewed changes at UMBC as exciting opportunities to better our college experience. I am really excited to be a part of the SGA and I promise to continue working hard to see that YOU are effectively represented.

Brief Platform Statement:

  • Create campus-wide dialogue between administrators, SGA, and you!
  • Improve and create new and innovative student services including but not limited to extending library hours, improving transit services, and bringing REDBOX to campus.
  • Empower ALL students to become more active in the UMBC community by promoting volunteer activities, Black and Gold pride, and a greater sense of belonging.
