Here are some things that may make it easier to construct your
proposals.
Idea Development Tool
| Start with an idea: Something you want to create or change on campus. The idea could be an improvement to a UMBC policy, or a new program or resource SGA could help create.
In order to succeed with an idea, you will need a sound strategy. The strategy should be built on accurate information about the relevant people, departments, policies and decision-making processes. If you proceed without this information, there is a good chance your strategy will backfire.
The information you need to develop a sound strategy and take the first steps generally will be contained in the answers to these questions: | |
What is the status quo? If you want to change something about campus policy, what exactly is the current policy?
Who makes the decisions?
Why is the status quo in place?
Are there any models from elsewhere that may be useful?
What assets could you use? (Examples: Relationships with faculty/campus staff; Student organizations
and SGA officers who are interested/involved in the same issue).
What obstacles are in your way? (Examples: A senior administrator is opposed to the idea; the cost is very high).
