FAQs

Where is the SGA office?
The SGA office is on the second floor of the commons building.

What is SGA's purpose?
SGA's purpose is to organize and support undergraduate students in creating distinctive community, co-curricular and academic experiences; identify and give voice to students' hopes and concerns; engage students in campus activities and decision-making; build mutually beneficial partnerships with individuals and organizations on and off campus and promote and defend students' welfare.

Is it too late to be involved in the SGA?
It's never too late to get involved. For all available options go to http://sga.umbc.edu/getinvolved/. Even if there are no more "titled" positions left, if you are passionate about a project, you can always come and discuss with us and get started to make a change.

Where can I find a list of all the organizations on campus?

How can I start my own organization on campus?

I have a concern about the university and I want it to be heard and for SGA to do something about it. Where do I start?
There are several projects that the current SGA members are working on. If you find your concern there, please contact the members in charge of the project. Otherwise, email us at sga@umbc.edu or come talk to any of us. We can either help you navigate the problem yourself or partner with you and hopefully solve the problem together.

What kinds of things does the SGA work on?

Why can't the SGA just fix the food on campus, or build another parking garage, or make the Erickson field more beautiful or just fix it all!
We try our very best to address as many concerns as we can. Unfortunately, something like having better food on campus requires a lot of discussion, navigation through a lot of channels and time. If you are really passionate about an issue, come talk to any of us about it and we can help you make the right connections and follow up with you on the issue.

I am not in the SGA. Am I still allowed to attend any of the meetings?
Yes! All SGA meetings - Senate, Finance Board and Executive branch are open to all UMBC students. We encourage you to attend and share your opinions.
