Brady WalkerE-Mail Address: bwalker1@umbc.eduSchedule: See My CalendarBrady Walker is a junior at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He is a Sondheim Public Affairs Scholar and is planning to major in Political Science concentrating in Constitutional Studies. In his freshman year, Brady was involved with the UMBC Student Government Association as the assistant to the Director of Student Advocacy. In that role, he worked to support the initiatives undertaken by the Director such as the Election Night Extravaganza. Also during his freshman year, Brady served as a Peer Leader for the First Year Council, as the shadow representative to the University System of Maryland Student Council, as one of two Freshman Representatives to the Honors College Council, as a member of the Model United Nations Club, and as a member of a brass quintet. While a sophomore at UMBC, Brady again served in the SGA. This time, he was the assistant to the Director of Community and Governmental Relations. In that role, he worked alongside the Director and the President to foster meaningful relationships between the students at UMBC and the surrounding communities of Catonsville and Arbutus. In the spring of 2006, Brady took a break from his involvement on and off campus to studying in the United Kingdom for six months. While at the University of Essex in Colchester, Brady took classes in politics and philosophy. Brady is excited to begin his junior year at UMBC. This year, he will once again serve the students of UMBC as the Chief of Staff of the Student Government Association. He will work hard to increase student involvement and to promote the student voice at UMBC. In addition to his work with the SGA, Brady will serve university students across Maryland as the Director of Governmental Affairs for the University of Maryland Student Council. Among other duties, Brady will be responsible for planning the annual USMSC sponsored lobbying day, Annapolis 101. Brady serves the State of Maryland as a Commissioner on the Governor’s Commission for Service and Volunteerism (appointed by Governor Ehrlich in 2004) and as a member of the Governor’s Workgroup for Young Drivers (appointed by Governor Ehrlich in 2004). Brady maintains a passion for politics and is a frequently seen face in Annapolis during the legislative session. Brady is also involved in his home community of Snow Hill, Maryland as the founder and chairperson of Kids Requesting Action for a Safer Highway (KRASH), an organization that has caused the allocation of over 19 million state and federal dollars to correct a dangerous highway condition in the area. Upon graduation in June of 2008 from UMBC, Brady plans to pursue a master’s degree in law and another in public policy. Brady hopes to then pursue a doctorate in public policy. |
