House of Organizations Meeting, 4/26/2007
The following are meeting minutes from the House of Organizations meeting. The House meets every Tuesday at 5:30 PM in Room 318 on the third floor of The Commons. These meetings are open to all students to listen to discussion. If you would like to present an issue, please contact the Speaker of the House, Nayana Davis, in advance so you can be added to the agenda.

A. HL123-0607 – Penalty for Sigma Alpha Epsilon for Misleading the SGA
Lamya: we don’t want them to reserve space until they fill the forms.

B. HL124-0607 – Additional Allocation for Annual Session Registration
Ross: the Maryland student legislation wants to attend the Annapolis.
Mike: what are the Maryland student legislation?
Ross: a mock trial like organization.
For: 5 Opposed: 0 Abstain: 1
C. HL125-0607 – Additional Allocation for Genesis Toastmasters
Nayana: they are having a speech contest and expecting 40 people, money is for food and equipment.
For: 5 Opposed: 0 Abstain: 1
D. HL126-0607 – Additional Allocation for Registration Costs
Nayana: add 4 more people to the registration cost.
Liz: so ten people have been give money.
For: 4 Opposed: 1 Abstain: 1
E. HL127-0607 – Additional Allocation for Awards Show Fundraiser for amfAR
Nayana: they are holding it in sport zone, expecting sell out.
Ross: why is it called amfAR
Nayana: a charity the money is going to it

F. HL128-0607 – ISCOM End of Semester Meeting
Nayana: they are asking chicken.
Ross: when and where?

G. HL129-0607 – Additional Allocation for Rain Garden
Nayana: from SEA,
Mike: is it going to on campus?
Nayana: they didn’t give much info

H. HL130-0607 – Additional Allocation for Registration Fee
Nayana: registration fee for the mock trial team.
Mike: Is this the group that is class
Nayana: well technically anyone can come and they meet outside class.
Ross: personally I am not okay with this. Their first election is in the first class and is not advertised.
Nayana: you have to be in the first class to be in the election. Do you have to be in the class to be elected?
Ross: I don’t know. Even if they did, people don’t show up, they don’t put anything out to tell anyone to show up
Mike: are people in the class getting credit?
Ross: yes.
Lamya: this has not come up earlier?
Ross: personally I am not for funding them
Mike: why is the class not able to get funding from the department?
Nayana: the budget cuts.
Liz: it the model UN is a class?
Ross: model UN is a class. But there was an organization, where mock trial just became a class.
Christine: you can’t go to conferences if you are not in the class.

Nayana: additional allocation for Arab student union.
Ross: when and where?
Nayana: flat Tuesday I think.
Ross: their first Additional Allocation?
Nayana: yes.
Ross: will they be charging?
Nayana: I think they are but I don’t know how much
Mike: Are they targeting off campus and on?
Nayana: they expect both.

J. JL20-0607 – Changes to the SGA Budgetary Policy
Ross: I would like to table it.

Ross: the fiscal year
Nayana: this there original, I will email the revised one.
Committee Reports
Ross: basically we meet with SAE this week and I will email them on what they need to do.
Mike: the restriction of reserving space is not meant to be long term
Nayana: we passed legislation, so they can reserve space until they file the paper work.
Nayana: we saw the last of the Additional Allocation for this year
Ex-Officio Reports
David: the election.
General Discussions
Mike: there will be a forum at the retriever
Nayana: SGA members should not get to heavily involved. Carrie requested people on the committee that will talk to the retriever editor, should not go. And you should not joke about cutting the retrievers funding.
Ross: personally as a represent of organization, I believe it is my duty to go.
Mike: given the method this particular discussion came about, so be careful.
David: the people who has grievance, have the right to have grievance but changing the retriever will not going to help.
Liz: the best way, to think about this
Nayana: it is not an issue about good and bad thing it is about the wrong things.
David: I see the people in the retriever writing just to make themselves that
Nayana: what is the way to solve they understaffed and freedom of speech.
David: the people
Ross: I am worried that they are not interested in things that are happening on-campus. Where can we come in and say
David: then there is the idea of starting a new newspaper.
Christine: has this been going on for a while?
David: the amount of information that goes through the sga.
Nayana: the newsletter

Mike: we will go to the mean
Liz: I think a publication is a good idea.
Ross: we are the people that know that. We know what is happening. If there is a forum.
Announcement
Nayana: in regards to welcome week, Steve proposed to give laptop to admission during the summer so they can do student registration in the skylight lounge. I would not like our new students to do this in the basement.
Liz: can there be two places.

Mike: open recital are coming up, may 9 and may 2.
